Passage to Rio

Coaches Supporting Coaches Supporting Coaching…is the mantra of the BSCA

In August a team of 26 will be going to Rio to represent the sport of swimming and Great Britain in the Summer Olympic Games, followed by a further 31 in September to do likewise in the Paralympic Games.

This is of course the culmination of years of hard work and determination, not only from the swimmers, but from their coaches who will often have placed athlete needs well in advance of their own during this period.

Due to limited resources, a number of coaches who have placed a swimmer on the British team for Rio will not be able to attend the Games and watch their athletes race. Thus being unable to share the experience which we all know is a crucial component in the coach-athlete relationship.

The BSCA wish to set up a fund to support such member coaches in this position and the Association itself have set aside a sum of money to contribute towards helping them travel to Rio and to be there to support their swimmer(s) as well as promote and represent the sport of swimming and inspire the next generation of swimmers and coaches.

We are therefore asking and encouraging other BSCA members to consider making a contribution towards this fund to assist and recognise their colleagues’ efforts.
