Millfield Prep School is an Independent Prep School located in the heart of Somerset. The school has fantastic swimming facilities and is the leading Independent Prep School for swimming in the UK, with record breaking results at the 2018 National IAPS Swimming Championships. The swimming programme caters to students from Pre-School to age 13 and has strong connections with the swimming programme at Millfield School.

Millfield Prep currently has a position for an ambitious, committed and passionate swimming coach to assist in the development of swimmers from junior squads up to regional level standard. This is a 52 week position where you will work an average of 42 hours per week during term time and 15 hours per week non-term time.

The successful applicant must be qualified to a minimum standard of UKCC level 2. Accommodation is available, in return for this you will be required to participate in boarding house duties.

The salary for this role is £20,000 per annum.

Key Duties:

1.       Coaching junior swimmers from County to Regional Standard.

2.       To assist the coaching of Multi sport athletes. (Including triathlon, biathlon and modern pentathlon).

3.       Attend specified competitions as agreed with the Director of swimming. This may require overnight trips away with the team.

4.       Assist in Planning and implementing training programs including water and land based training schemes.

5.       To help with administration duties such as organizing junior time-trial events and writing school reports when requested.

6.       Helping to facilitate and prepare swimmers for the athletic demands of swimming across all squad development groups into the competitive section.

7.       Contributing to an effective coaching structure, and engaging actively in continuous personal development and the development of Millfield Swimming.

8.       Any other duties that your line manager sees fit, providing that such duties are appropriate to your role.


Person Specification:

As a Swimming Coach you will have:

  1. Experience within the world of swimming as a teacher, coach or athlete.
  2. Minimum coaching qualifications at UKCC Level 2 Award for Coaching Swimming.
  3. Teaching qualifications of level 2 preferred. 
  4. Experience of coaching swimmers to a minimum of county championship standard and experience of working with children in a contemporary professional environment.
  5. Knowledge of the long-term development practices for young male and female athletes in line with the British Swimming Long Term Athlete Development Pathway.
  6. The ability to plan and implement training sessions in the water and on the land so as to produce the development of skills and performance.
  7. Understanding of the integration of successful sports’ performance programmes in to a school’s educational environment.
