Northampton Swimming Club - Age Group and Junior Coach

Northampton Swimming Club are looking to recruit an age group/ Junior coach to join their successful teaching and coaching team on a full time basis commencing at the start of the new season late August 2018.  Salary is £20000-£23000 dependent on experience.

Northampton Swimming Club (NSC) is affiliated to Northants ASA and Swim England East Midlands Region. Based in and around Northampton the club has approximately 300 swimmers and 450 in a Swim School.

The successful candidate will join a team of coaches, teachers and volunteers who are constantly striving to move the Club forward and who have seen some great results over the last two years.

  • 2017 – Top of medal table at County Championships, Regional Championships and 2nd to City of Sheffield at British Summer Champs and English Home Nations
  • 2018- Top of medal table at County Championships, Regional Youth Championships, 2nd at the National Arena League B Final, Commonwealth Gold Medallist Ellie Robinson.

JOB TITLE: Age Group and Junior Coach

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of Swimming

RESPONSIBLE FOR:  The Development Squads and Junior Performance Group

SALARY:    £20000.00-£23000 dependant on experience.


• ASA Level 2 Teacher and Level 2 Coaches

• First aid certificate 

• RLSS Rescue Test for Swimming Teachers and Coaches


• Sound organisational skills.

• Sound administration skills

• Ability to adapt to different situations

• Ability to motivate swimmers.

• Ability to communicate with effectiveness with Swimmers, Parents, Volunteers, Committee Members and Colleagues

• Good Time Management is imperative

• Ability to work unsociable and long hours


• To work as and when required at a variety of different venues, with 1-2 squads of swimmers to help them achieve the aims required following the Clubs Teaching and Coaching plan in a productive and efficient manner.

• To attend open meets, competitions, camps, development galas, schools galas, teachers and coaches meetings, cover other squads and any other Club activities as and when required.

• Club administration including but not limited to - promotion of the Club through school visits, leaflet drops, banking, club membership, meet entries and general club administration

• Administration around development groups and squads coached including but not limited to:  Squad Registers, up to date emergency contact information, squad news bulletins, test set results, time trial results and ensuring that any need for any specific swimmer is identified and acted upon

• To work with the teachers in the teaching programme to bring swimmers through into the development squads and to up-skill the teachers so that lessons are producing the swimmers with the skills needed within the coaching programme

• Abide by all policies and codes as required by the club.

• Ensure that you have copies of accident book available at all times.

• Ensure that all qualifications are renewed and updated as and when required. 

• Be aware and understand the facility Emergency Action Plan and Normal Operating Procedures (EAP & NOP)  for all pools used

• To follow and promote the ASA Child Protection policy, ASA Code of Conduct for Swimmers Teachers and Coaches and Equity Policies.

• This is a description of the job, as it is constituted at the date advertised. It is the practice of the Club to periodically examine job descriptions, update them and ensure that they relate to the job performed or to incorporate any proposed changes. The Chairman of the Club in consultation with the post holder will conduct this procedure.

• In these circumstances it will be the aim to reach agreement on reasonable changes, but if agreement is not possible the NSC Executive Committee reserves the right to make changes to your job description following consultation.
