Head Swimming Coach Bilston Swimming Club - ASA Level 3

Bilston Swimming Club (based at Bilston, WV14 0E) is seeking an experienced Level 3 (or Level 2 working towards Level 3) coach to lead our successful and dedicated coaching team and continue the success and growth we have seen we have seen in recent years.

The Club

We are friendly club of 300 plus swimmers across our very successful swim school, community, junior development and performance, and senior performance squads.

We are extremely proud of our achievements and growing success: in 2017, we have had medal winners at county and regional level and have had swimmers competing at a national level in the summer as well as at the Para-Nationals. The club boasts a proactive and supportive committee, assisted by a strong team of willing volunteers and technical officials.

The Role

The head coach will be responsible for developing the Club’s competitive and training swimming programme and leading the current coaching team. Main responsibilities will include:

  • Development of an annual training and competition programme based around the principles of long term athlete development (LTAD).
  • Preparing training session plans for all squads and allocate water time to the squads accordingly.
  • Coaching training sessions of the Competitive Squads.
  • Performing a management role and organising all coaching staff.
  • Ensuring that the appropriate level of coaching is available for all training sessions including land training. Some of this responsibility may be delegated to other coaches where appropriate.
  • Providing a swimmer/parent education programme focussing on a variety of swimming related topics and lifestyles issues.
  • Attending all appropriate competitions and training camps. Delegate to appropriately qualified coaches and team managers where necessary.
  • Monitoring swimmers’ progress and co-ordinate swimmer movements between squads in conjunction with the other squad coaches
  • Maintaining qualifications and CPD.

The Candidate

You will ideally hold a Level 3 coaching qualification (or have a minimum of Level 2 coaching and teaching qualifications with a desire to complete your Level 3 coaching qualification). You will have experience of working with swimmers at age group and senior level.

The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate a strong ability to coach swimmers, motivating them and developing their swimming technique. You should have good communication skills and able to communicate clearly to swimmers, parents and the Club's management committee. You will be reliable and punctual with excellent time management skills.

You will need to have a good understanding of LTAD and actively demonstrate the willingness to learn and further develop yourself to ensure you remain at the forefront of professional coaching standards. You will be prepared to learn and embrace new coaching techniques and technologies to deliver a good learning experience for all your swimmers.

You should understand and have a sound knowledge of the essential skills and behaviours that swimmers should develop in order to reach their full potential. You will be keen to support those skills by the provision of quality learning and competitive opportunities.

As head coach you will have great team management skills and the ability to motivate others.

You will need DBS clearance and a current Safeguarding Certificate recognised by Swim England.

The post holder will be required to work unsociable hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends; be able to start after the County Championships in February 2018; be able to commit to approx. 18hours per week coaching and leading the club. Plus weekend galas and open meets.

The role offers a competitive salary reflecting experience and hourly commitment. An allowance for open meets and galas is also available.
