Stefano Morini - BSCA Conference 2016

Since graduating from high school, Stefano has dedicated his passion and drive to competitive swimming, becoming head coach at Livorno Swimming in 1982.

During the second half of the eighties, Stefano was involved in the Italian national youth team and this experience lead to him joining the technical team for the senior national team in the 1990's. From 1998 to 2000 he managed the butterfly programme with the F.I.N (Federazione Italiana Nuoto) before being called to Verona in 2001 where he became assistant to the Head Coach, Alberto Castagnetti. In this role he played a part in preparing Paola Cavallino and Alessandra Cappa for the European Championships in Madrid 2004, both making the touch to take silver in the 200m fly and bronze in the 50m backstroke respectively.

In the autumn of 2004 Stefano began coordinating the ‘Beijing 2008 Project' which followed and supported the growth of the brightest young prospects in the various specialties of the Games in 2008, an experience that would serve him well later in 2011.

Following the death of Alberto Castagnetti Stefano moved to Verona where he became responsible for the progression of Emiliano Brembilla, Luca Marin, David Joseph Natullo, Federica Pellegrini and Cesare Sciocchetti. Under his leadership Federica Pellegrini set the world record for the 200 Freestyle in Istanbul and won the European Championships in Budapest 2010 in the same event.

It was Stefano's next assignment that would prove to be his most successful when in January 2011 he became Technical Manager in Ostia. Here he helped create a programme with young athletes which produced some amazing results from Gregorio Paltrinieri, Samuel Pizzetti, Stefania Pirozzi, Gabriel Said and Martina Rita Caramignoli.

Further success came in 2015 from Gregorio Paltrinieri in Kazan at the World Championships where he took gold in the 1500m freestyle and silver in the 800m freestyle, events he will be aiming for gold in at this summer's Olympic Games.

Stefano will be speaking at the British Swimming Coaches Association annual conference in September alongside Patrick Pearson from the Netherlands. For further details or to book go to the BSCA Conference booking page.
