Patrick Pearson - BSCA Conference 2016

Patrick Pearson has been a competitive swimming coach since 1999, starting at club level with diverse age groups and seniors. He became a youth coach for the Dutch Swimming Federation in 2010 and the assistant coach of Jacco Verhaeren leading towards the successful Olympic Games of London 2012. His academic analytical skills, which were developed during his work as a consultant for Accenture, became an asset in his approach to guiding elite swimmers.

Pairing up with Verhaeren and embedded Movement Scientists at the Innosport Lab in Eindhoven, made him able to develop good insights in start and turn technique and sprinting in general.

When Verhaeren left to go to Australia, Pearson eventually became the coach of double Olympic Champion and World Record holder on 50m freestyle (25m) Ranomi Kromowidjojo and other sprinters in Eindhoven (e.g., Maaike de Waard).

In a SwimSwam article Kromowidjojo said the following about Patrick Pearson:

"It took a little longer than I expected to find a new coach," says Kromowidjojo. "Not just a good coach. I needed to have 110% confidence. Not only as a good trainer, not only in the water, but also outside of the water and it took a while."

"After Jacco left for Australia I had to find that person. One and a half years ago my current coach Patrick Pearson and I started to work together and today it is fantastic. I think that it is really important in the Olympic season that there are no changes. I am happy this year and last year to have a stable situation. A good situation with no ups and downs, just ups."

"He is really into details and that is what I need in the 50 and the 100. He is a really nice guy to work with outside of the pool as well. He is like a friend and we can have fun together it is not only like he is there for training sessions we can talk about music or good restaurants."

Patrick will be speaking at the British Swimming Coaches Association annual conference in September alongside Stefano Morini from the Netherlands. For further details or to book go to the BSCA Conference booking page.
