About
The BSCA was formed in 1965 and has undergone numerous changes since that time. It now has teaching & coaching members within Clubs, schools, universities, local authorities & employees of Governing Bodies at all levels of the sport. It represents the views of, and offers support to, both the voluntary & professional sectors of our sport. To manage this, the BSCA has a network of representatives operating locally throughout the UK, and at the opposite end of the scale, it has officers who sit upon the Board of the World Swimming Coaches Association (WSCA).
The BSCA uses the following headings as descriptors to highlight the services it provides:
Promoting: The BSCA works in partnership with British Swimming, the ASA & Scottish Swimming, locally, regionally & nationally to promote the role of the Coach & Teacher in the welfare of the swimmer & the sport.
Protecting: It is the role of the BSCA to protect the interests of the membership & the activity/profession. The BSCA’s insurance policies gives not only Liability cover but also relevant Criminal legal cover when serious allegations are made and representation & support is required, whatever the allegation against you; within the sport and in the courts.
Representing: The BSCA has representation upon various governing body committees & working parties, at all levels of the sport and can raise members’ queries with the relevant decision makers. Through our partnership with the World Swimming Coaches Association (WSCA), we now also have links to LEN & FINA.
Recognising: The BSCA recognises Coaching Achievement nationally at its Annual Awards Dinner (as part of our National Conference) and regionally, through Regional Forums, at appropriate events in front of Coaches, Swimmers, Parents & Officials.
Educating: Through newsletters, magazines, our web site, National* & regional conferences, plus a comprehensive CPD programme in partnership with British Swimming, we aim to help members develop technically & professionally, as coaches & teachers.
