An evening of good food, good company, fun and glitz, saw the BSCA recognise and reward aquatic coaching achievement at their Annual Awards Dinner in the West Midlands. In a packed programme, 17 presentations were made including touching & emotional citations.

BSCA / Speedo Coach of the Year
For only the second time in the Associations history a tied decision was made as there was no way of differentiating between respective performances. Sean Kelly (Stockport ITC) & Bill Furniss (Nova Centurion) were recognised, were rewarded following the Gold medal winning performances of Kerri-Anne Payne & Rebecca Adlington respectively at the FINA World Championships in Shanghai.
Both coaches stated it was their aim to get the Award again next year in their own right!
BSCA Disability Coach of the Year (sponsored by CoachEdUK Ltd)
Mick Massey from Manchester saw his seven swimmers win 18 medals at the IPC European Championships in Berlin, with 6 of these being Gold. Key winner was Jonathon Fox with three Gold.

BSCA Coaching Awards of Excellence (sponsored by SwimTec-UK)
Ben Titley (Loughborough ITC) and Patrick Miley (Garioch SC) were recognised in this category for the respective performances of Liam Tancock, Gold in 50m Back and Hannah Miley, silver in the 400m Individual Medley.

BSCA Disability Coaching Awards of Excellence
Billy Pye (Swansea), Steve Bratt (London) & John Stout (Salford) each received this inaugural award for the performances of their swimmers at the IPC Euro’s in Berlin. Pye won 17 medals with 6 being Gold, Stout, 13 medals with 7 as Gold and Bratt won 6 with one swimmer Suzie Rodgers winning five Golds at her first international competition, the most Golden swimmer on the team.

Lifetime Achievement Award
Charlie Wilson was a popular winner of this Award for a lifetime of teaching most of those in the room how to coach and develop their skills. Terry Denison MBE and BSCA Chair read out the citation. Also recognised was AD (Bert) Kinnear, who having died earlier this year was posthumously recognised with a moving citation given by Hammy Smith and the Award received by Bert’s son, Ian Kinnear.
BSCA Youth Coach of the Year
Laurel Bailey – Warrender Baths Club, Edinburgh for Craig Benson winning Gold at FINA World Youth Champs in Lima in the Boys 100m Breaststroke.

BSCA Alan Hime Memorial Award
Gary Rodgers (Romford Town) was recognised for the performance of Elena Sheridan when winning Gold in the 200m Butterfly at the LEN European Championships in Belgrade.

BSCA Certificates of Recognition
These were presented to the following coaches Nathan Hilton (Royal Wolverhampton School), Dave McNulty / Graeme Antwhistle (Bath ITC), Andi Manley (Deventio) and Dave Haller (Cardiff).

BSCA Coaching Chain Award
The team behind the development and rise to World Domination of Rebecca Adlington were recognised by the BSCA. Ian Negus (Sherwood Colliery SC), Glenn Smith (Mansfield /Nova swim squad) and Bill Furniss (Nova Centurion Performance Squad – Nottingham) were all rewarded for their respective parts in bringing the best out of the outstanding swimmer.
